This bottle is known as a Codd bottle, after William Codd who invented it
The Victorians didn't have screw top bottles or lift off caps;
Usually they used corks
When carbonated or ‘fizzy' drinks became popular the corks would sometimes pop out at any time
This Clever bottle has a marble in it that would seal the top using the pressure of the drink
To drink it you simply pushed the marble in to relieve the pressure and hey presto!
